What is Divine Inspiration?

The breakdown of the word inspiration is ‘in spirit.” We often say we feel or felt “inspired.” When you are connected to your spirit and receive Divine inspiration, you will just know it. It will feel exciting! This Divinely guided energy and enthusiasm just flows through you because you are “in flow.” You are in spiritual alignment.

You will automatically feel and know it to be truth. The energy of inspiration pulsates within your body. All your cells feel alive and come to life. Inspiration will feel both calming and electrifying. The action(s) to take will be crystal clear if one is needed.

Inspiration comes in at times to easily help you solve a lingering problem. It may be an idea to try a new hobby or mentor, a nudging to reach out to a friend, or to begin or expand a new creative project. You might feel called to travel a specific place or attend an event even if you don’t fully understand the reason.

The State of Being and Allowing: Human Being vs Human Doing

Inspiration can come at any time. It often arrives in quiet moments of contemplation when the thinking mind is idle or at rest.  Allow silence, a space in between the busyness of your day, for these subtle ideas, thoughts, and inspirations to drop in. Remember, you are a human “being” not a human “doing.” Accomplishing tasks is of course necessary, but allowing yourself to just “be” is when the door opens ushering inspiration through it to you.

Be in a state of being. Be sure to listen for those inspired whispers. Be open to receiving them. Express gratitude for them. Then inspiration will be like clockwork. It will show up even more frequently as confirmation.

Ten Tips for Connecting to Inspiration

Any time you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or irritated, use these tips to connect to inspiration.  Feeling inspiration is a natural mood booster.

  1. Practice Mindfulness and Meditation: Engaging in regular mindfulness and meditation practices can help intentionally quiet your mind and open you up to new ideas. These practices can enhance your awareness and creativity, allowing inspiration to flow more freely.
  2. Spend Time in Nature: Nature has a way of clearing your mind and providing fresh perspectives. Whether it's a walk in the park, a hike in the mountains, or simply sitting by a lake or beachside, nature can be a powerful source of inspiration.
  3. Engage in Creative Activities: Engaging in activities like painting, writing, playing music, drawing or coloring (hello, coloring books for adults!) can stimulate your creative brain and help generate new ideas. Even if these activities are not directly related to your every day work, they can still spark inspiration.
  4. Read Widely and Often: Books, blog articles, affirmation card decks, and poetry can introduce you to new concepts and ways of thinking. Reading a variety of genres and subjects can broaden your horizons and inspire innovative ideas.
  5. Keep a Journal: Writing down your thoughts, experiences, and ideas regularly can help you capture moments of inspiration and reflect on them later. A journal can also be a source of inspiration in itself as you utilize journal prompts, quotes, or review past entries.
  6. Seek New Experiences: Travel to new places, try new foods, learn new skills, or meet new people. New experiences can break your routine and stimulate your mind, making it easier for inspiration to strike.
  7. Surround Yourself with Inspirational People: Connect with people who inspire you, whether they're friends, family, mentors, or even public figures. Engaging in conversations with inspiring individuals and watching online videos can provide new insights and motivation.
  8. Limit Distractions: Create a space where you can focus without interruptions. Turn off notifications, set boundaries for work and personal time, and give yourself the mental space needed for inspiration to emerge. Start with taking a few slow, deep breaths.
  9. Stay Physically Active: Exercise can boost your mood and energy levels, which in turn can enhance your ability to think creatively. Activities like walking or running, yoga, and dancing can also provide moments of clarity and inspiration. Playing with your kids or pets is also a fun way to stay active.
  10. Reflect and Relax: Allow yourself time to relax and reflect without the pressure of doing something productive. Sometimes, inspiration comes when you least expect it, often during moments of relaxation.

Incorporating these practices into your daily life can create an environment where inspiration is more likely to find you.  But, you do have to play your part to welcome it in. Go ahead and dust off that welcome mat. Pull open the shades and let the light of inspiration in!
